BIO-GRO
Certification
Bio-Gro
New Zealand is the trading name of the New Zealand
Biological Producers and Consumers Council Inc,
formed in 1983. It is the registered owner of the
BlO-GRO trademark and has developed a set of
standards for organic production which are
internationally recognised and respected.
BlO-GRO New Zealand is a member of
the International Federation of Organic Agriculture
Movements (IFOAM), based in Germany. IFOAM is
continually scrutinising and reviewing Bio-Gro
systems to ensure compliance with the international
standards.
All suppliers of organic product to
New Zealand Organics are certified by Bio-Gro, and
permitted to use the Bio-Gro trademark. The initial
stage of certification process allows for organic
producers to be given a transition status after two
years, and then to progress to full certification
after a period of three consecutive years of approved
organic production.
New Zealand Organics accepts
only Transition or Full BlO-GRO organic product for
export.
Additional assurance measures are
as follows:
- Transition produce is only
accepted for export once accompanied by a
certificate from BlO-GRO when all
certification requirements have been met.
- BlO-GRO conducts bi-annual
inspection of organic properties, and all
licences must be annually renewed.
- The New Zealand Ministry of
Agriculture and Fisheries (MAF) also conducts
independent audits of our organic producers.
All produce exported as New
Zealand Organics carries the BlO-GRO trademark.
